If you’ve ever wondered why some extractions look effortless, prep is the answer. Warm, softened skin makes the whole session gentler. It’s the one step we never skip.

What steam actually does

Warmth and moisture soften the outer layer of skin and the gunk sitting at the surface of pores. That makes it easier for a loop to do its job with light pressure, which is exactly what you want.

How to steam

  1. Cleanse first, so you’re not steaming makeup and sunscreen into place.
  2. Fill your steamer with distilled water.
  3. Sit comfortably about 12 to 15 inches away.
  4. Steam for 5 to 10 minutes. Warm and relaxed, never hot.
  5. Pat dry and start right away while the skin is still warm.

No steamer? Use a warm cloth

Soak a clean washcloth in warm (not hot) water, wring it out, and hold it over the area for a minute. Repeat three or four times. It’s the budget version and it works.

Who should go easy

If your skin flushes easily or you have sensitive skin, keep sessions short and the distance comfortable, or stick with the warm cloth. Our pick for steam is the NanoSteamer; it heats fast and doubles as a humidifier.
